About Us

Zyvonne and I have become fast friends over the past five years and shortly after getting to know each other realized we shared a similar opinion of where life in the United States was headed, and while it’s a great place to work and live comparatively speaking, neither of us intended to retire here. We explore all of the reasons why we are looking to retire in under the category “Shit’s About To Get Real” , which provides a dark assessment as to where the future is headed. It’s pretty depressing stuff, but we’re not doomsday prepper by a long shot and we certainly have no idea if any of these things will come to pass in our lifetimes. But we both have children, and when you think in generational terms, you have to plan ahead. to do otherwise is irresponsible. Since we are not intending to retire for several years, we have begun the process of learning Spanish, acquiring the knowledge and skills that will serve us in our new life.

By profession Zyvonne is in compliance & risk manager for a large insurance company is a marathoner and a rock climber with a talent for quilting and putting up with me. I am a senior software engineer & project manager with a passion for cooking and in my earlier career I had spent 20 years in the building trades and am skilled as a carpenter, mason, and general contractor. Our hope in putting this out there is to share our concerns for the future, and how we plan to meet these challenges. Some people see the same things that we do and want to build a wall and kick out the foreigners, or revolt and overthrow the establishment. We see a third way – to build by example a community that can thrive in harmony with the earth and each other. We hope you will join us.
